I recently realized that IMAPS Symposium 2025 marks my 20th anniversary in the microelectronics industry. It was the first industry event I attended, as the Associate Editor of Advanced Packaging Magazine. My first SEMICON West was in 2006, and my first SEMICON Europa was in 2007. That was when I was first dubbed “Queen of 3D” for my obsession with all the emerging technologies and processes that would make 3D stacking possible. It was the moniker I carried with me when I started 3D InCites in 2009 after Advanced Packaging folded, and it stuck.
20 years is a good run, and 3D stacking has made it to commercialization. Many say it is the future of semiconductors. I’ve thought that since day one. My job here is done.
So it seems fitting to announce to the industry that effective December 31, 2025, I will be retiring from 3D InCites to pursue a passion I’ve long left on the sidelines: a career in fiction writing.
So what will happen with 3D InCites? Rest assured, all the wonderful content, technical papers, and community contributions that have been created over the years will continue to have a good home. Martijn Pierik, my business partner, and I are working diligently to find the right industry partner to take ownership of the brand and its assets, including the website, content, podcast, and mailing list. We are committed to ensuring that this community platform continues to thrive under a new caretaker.
IMAPS 2025, SEMICON West 2025, and SEMICON Europa 2025 will be my farewell podcasting tour, and the 3D InCites Stammtisch on November 17 will be my official retirement party. If you want to join us, reach out to one of our table sponsors to get your invitation. All the info is here.
(And who knows? When I’m not working on my debut novel, I might pop up in your LinkedIn feed from time to time or show up at an event to catch up with you. Because we all know that nobody EVER really leaves this industry.)
