Edwards is committed to minimizing the negative environmental impacts of semiconductor manufacturing. The company joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), which provides companies with a clearly-defined path to reduce emissions
in line with the Paris Agreement goals limiting global warming to well below 2 C above pre-industrial levels and pursuing efforts to limit warming to 1.5 C. The framework covers those
In 2020 Edwards abatement systems prevented the equivalent of 17.7 million tons of CO2 emissions at customers’ facilities. A significant achievement for 2021 was winning the SEMICON West Best of the West award for recycling for our hydrogen recovery sub-system, which can be added to integrated vacuum and abatement systems to recover and recycle hydrogen gas, which is used in large quantities by EUV lithography systems. Recovering/recycling hydrogen can reduce costs, carbon footprint, and associated hazards. Benefits accrue both upstream and downstream.
